Benefits of Meditating Postpartum

by | Aug 23, 2021

Every morning I make a point to engage in some type of breathwork. Sometimes it’s Wim Hof’s breathing method, sometimes it’s 4×4 box breathing, and sometimes it’s just getting one deep breath in as I am feeding my baby. Connecting to my breath and dropping into meditation has always been something that is so easily accessible and has the power to calm my nervous system down almost immediately.

The biggest thing I have learned is that it doesn’t take massive planning or even financial commitment to make yourself feel valued. A quick moment of meditation to pause, be present and take a deep breath has the power to shift your energy and your perspective. This is self-care and it is imperative to be extra gentle with yourself postpartum.

Meditation can also be a beautiful tool for winding down at night and sleeping. Headspace came out with the best mini-series on Netflix that explains meditation and then leads you through a guided meditation to end. It is SO relaxing. One of the series is specifically for sleep and I found myself putting this on and falling right to sleep.

Practicing meditation throughout my postpartum experience has helped me manage the anxiety I felt around my baby’s safety and has allowed me to be responsive to my baby instead of reactive.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
