How I Keep My House Clean With A Baby

I get this might not resonate with everyone and I know that the advice you will probably receive is, “Let the housework go!” or “Don’t worry about cleaning with a newborn.” But for me, having my home clean and orderly makes me feel organized and allows me to think clearly. It soothes me to know everything has a place. So maybe this won’t seem like an important part of postpartum for everyone, but for me it’s important and I honor that.
Maximizing my time and being efficient is SO important to me now that I am a mom. I have to allocate my energy and be thoughtful about it now. I want to be present when I am with my daughter and I also want to live in a clean space.
It’s not just about the appearances though – I think about cleaning as an energetic cleansing too. It’s calming for me to clean and it does feel like a clearing out and a ritual in a way.
Anyways – if you are like me and want a clean house but the thought of keeping it clean all the time is overwhelming try this schedule.
I sat down and thought about everything that needed to get done around the house in a week. What was most important? I wrote those down and then assigned each task to one day of the week. It’s attainable to set a goal of getting just one thing done. Being consistent allows me to feel like I’ve accomplished something (bc I have) and consistently achieving a goal you set for yourself builds confidence. It’s a win-win. I love this especially because if I see the floors are messy I can say to myself, “ok they are messy, but the floors will get cleaned on Wednesday.”
monday – bathrooms
tuesday – kitchen counters + sweep
wednesday – dust + floors (every other week)
thursday – laundry
saturday – sweep
sunday – meal plan
At the end of the day, this is what works for me and my family. Everyone has their different ways of approaching persona things like the cleanliness of your own space. But, I hope you find this helpful if you are someone who (like me) was initially overwhelmed with the thought of getting everything done with a brand new babe.
